What we publish
GRAVE EMPIRE seeks previously unpublished horror fiction of novella and novel length (approximately 50,000-90,000 words). As a genre, horror is legion and comes in many forms. This independent press is specifically interested in the traditions of existential and psychological dread, supernatural and cosmic horror, as well as works engaging with social, cultural, institutional, and everyday evils. The ideal acquisition is literary without pretense, iconoclastic, inventive, and decidedly unnerving.
Some authors who influenced the formation of GRAVE EMPIRE include Brian Evenson, Victor LaValle, Clive Barker, Tananarive Due, Mariana Enriquez, Shirley Jackson, Ira Levin, HP Lovecraft, and Edgar Allan Poe.
What we do not publish
GRAVE EMPIRE does not accept science fiction, fantasy, comedy/parody, splatterpunk, Gothic Romance, mystery/thriller, or YA. Currently not accepting short story or poetry collections. No AI. No Nazi shit.
Guidelines
Submit only complete manuscripts in Microsoft Word format to submissions@graveempire.com. Include a cover letter with brief synopsis. Agented and unrepresented authors are welcome. Women, BiPOC, queer, and/or debut authors are encouraged to submit.
